NYACK HOUSE TOUR TO CELEBRATE OOM THE OMNIPOTENT

The Great Nyack House Tour, sponsored by the Historical Society of the Nyacks on May 15 from 10 AM until 4 PM, will highlight a colorful, charismatic character.  Five of the ten houses on the tour are connected with Pierre Bernard, popularly known as OOM the Omnipotent, a pioneer in this country in the field of Yoga.  During the 1920's, '30's, and '40's, Bernard and his wife Blanche DeVries, a dance and theater teacher, were noted for their exuberance, the rich and famous people they attracted, the family of elephants they kept, and the grand buildings where they held forth.

The other five buildings on the tour are diverse examples of grand homes of various styles. Many of them are also associated with exceptional persons, even if not quite so eccentric as Pierre Bernard.

The tour will provide beverages at Shuman Hall, formerly a part of the Bernard Estate and presently the Nyack College Administration Building.  At the same location, and at the Nyack Library as well, Life at the Clarkstown Country Club will be sold.  This is the republication of a book chronicling Pierre Bernard, Blanche DeVries, and their fascinating scene.

Reservations are $40 and  may be purchased on the day of the tour (no credit cards) from 9:30 AM to 2 PM, at Living Christ Church, 151 South Broadway, where the guide books are to be picked up.
