Down From the Attic: Preserving Our Family Heritage
Presented by Julie Trumpler
Thursday, April 7, 2005, 7 p.m.in the community room of the Nyack Library. There is no charge for this program.
Ever wonder what’s the best thing to do with that family Bible, quilt or old photo collection, to save for yourself and for future generations to enjoy? Learn about the do’s and don’ts in caring for and keeping those precious family heirlooms that we all have stored away in our closets, basements and attics. Discussion will also include materials available for correct storage, where to get them and how to use them. Examples of both professional and personal storage issues, from the speaker’s varied experience, will be illustrated in both slides and hands-on objects. A question and answer period will follow.
Julie Trumpler has worked for 10 years as a textile/costume conservator, collections manager and curator, following a 15-year career as a professional costume designer in the theatre. Currently the curator of the Orangetown Historical Museum and Archives, she has an MS degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology Museum Studies Program. She has also worked at the Merchant’s House Museum, the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology and the Metropolitan Museum in New York City, and as a consultant for several small local history organizations, including the Scarsdale Historical Society, the Historical Society of Pawling and Quaker Hill, and the Association of Blauvelt Descendents. Julie lives in a 1906 house in Tappan with her husband and dogs.
